Connecting you with learner information
Te Rito is a secure, cloud-based platform connecting SMSs with Ministry systems and other applications, so that information follows learners throughout their education.
As a reliable single source of learner information, it provides tumuaki, principals, teachers and kaimahi with:
- An end-to-end, up-to-date profile for every learner
- Simple dashboards about your learners, school and wider cluster
- Better insights from enrolment, attendance and achievement data
- Reduced double-handling and administration for schools and suppliers.
The data flowing into the platform from Ministry and SMS systems is continuously increasing, providing a simple, smart solution for connecting you with every learner's record in one place.
Start from a place of knowledge
The better we know our learners, the better we can support them.
Support the skills, talents and needs of learners from the moment they enrol.
As increasing numbers of kura and schools connect to Te Rito, you will have more information to:
- Inform conversations with your learners, and their parents and whānau, about their education choices.
- Create a rich picture of strengths and needs, to help you take a holistic approach to each student's learning and wellbeing.
- Protect as taonga, knowing that it won't be lost or overlooked.

Track outcomes for ākonga and learners
When you can easily track outcomes, you can better identify strengths and opportunities for growth to ensure your learners thrive.
Te Rito can help you understand data-driven insights, measure progress, refine strategies and optimise learning experiences. Its real-time data will help you with tailoring local practices and resources to support your learners - and continuously monitor growth and outcomes.
Plan and collaborate across clusters of schools
Te Rito works best when clusters of schools are connected. Tumuaki and principals are encouraged to invite other schools across your communities to connect so that together you can maximise the platform’s features and functionality.
If you're part of a Kāhui Ako, Te Rito's dashboards provide a common view across the cluster, supporting collaboration and creating a shared understanding of your learners' strengths and needs.
The dashboards display demographic, achievement and assessment data in an organised and easy-to-understand way, for principals to monitor, analyse and report on trends in their school, and across clusters, in near-real time.
*The data in shared dashboards can only be viewed by members of the Kāhui Ako.

Dashboards for tumuaki and principals
Te Rito's dashboards provide tumuaki and principals with a rich overview of learner information and are updated daily.
As well as providing information about learners in your own kura or school, as an authorised user, you will also have access to anonymised, aggregated information from other schools in your Kāhui Ako.
Student demographics
The demographics dashboard provides a view of enrolments in your Kāhui Ako based on demographics such as iwi, ethnicity, and gender identity.

Student transitions
The transitions dashboard provides a view of patterns and trends over time about why and when learners left their previous school to come to your school, and why and when they are leaving to attend another school.

Attendance
The attendance dashboard helps monitor and track the attendance of learners at your school based on year, ethnicity, and gender identity. It also allows you to slice data using attendance codes.

Streamline administration and reporting
As more systems connect to Te Rito and the platform becomes an increasingly rich source of information, the need for repetitive and often manual reporting and administrative processes reduces.
Streamlined, automated reporting can also be relied on by principals and boards to track progress, identify areas of risk and need, and inform decisions and commitments.
Connections, access and use
There is no cost and it is not compulsory for kura and schools to access and use Te Rito. But if you decide not to, connecting your SMS to the platform is still strongly recommended so that each record of learning continues to follow each learner as they move between schools.
